Sid Eudy, a main event-level wrestling star in the 1990s and early 2000s who performed under the names Sid Justice, Sycho Sid and Sid Vicious, has died, according to his son. He was 63. Gunnar Eudy wrote in a Facebook post Aug.

26 that his father passed away "after battling cancer for several years." "He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed," the message continued. Sid Eudy starred in both WWE and rival WCW, winning championships with both companies.

An imposing figure at a billed height of 6-foot-9, Eudy made an immediate impact when he made his WWE debut in 1991 as Sid Justice. He would become one of WWE’s top heels, or bad guys, wrestling Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 8 in 1992 after their storyline friendship fell apart. After a yearslong absence from WWE, Eudy would return and, as Sycho Sid, face the Undertaker in the main event of WrestleMania 13, losing the WWE Championship.

In 2001, Eudy suffered a devastating (and unscripted) leg injury during a championship match with WCW. Were it not for that injury, which essentially ended his full-time career in the wrestling industry’s brightest spotlights, “Sid’s successes would likely have stacked up against the best in WWE history,” Eudy’s list of accomplishments include becoming a two-time WWE Champion, a two-time WCW Champion and a United States Champion, according to the biography. Tributes for Eudy following his death included a social media post from former WCW and WWE star Booker T, who , “Without Sid Vicious, I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW.

His impact on this business was undeniable, and he paved the way for so many of us. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.” WWE posted a photo of Eudy on its social media accounts, , “WWE is saddened to learn that Sid Eudy has passed away.

WWE extends its condolences to Eudy’s family, friends and fans.” Shane Lou is a senior editor for TODAY.com.
