Celebrity chef Paul Hollywood has warmed up a carb-loaded debate. On July 11, “The Great British Baking Show” judge to his TikTok reigniting a hot-button topic: Where is the best place to store your bread. In the clip, the man who literally shared his best practices for keeping buns, rolls and loaves fresh.

“If you put your bread in a fridge it will stale three times quicker because you’re drawing all the moisture out of the loaf,” he says in the video. Hollywood says when he gets — or makes — a fresh loaf, he puts it in a brown paper bag and leaves it “on the side.” At just 11 seconds long, the video went viral, garnering 1.



3 million views. Folks left hundreds of comments debating the merits of tip. Critics left testimonies in the comments section saying they keep bread in the refrigerator and haven’t experienced the quick staling he described.

“I disagree l always keep it in fridge it’s always fresh 😳,” wrote one TikTok user. Another agreed, adding they use a “sealed bag” for storage. Someone else wrote that, in their experience, bread “gets moldy 3 times as well when you leave it outside.

” But another TikTok user said they haven’t experienced mold growing on their loaves stored in a bread drawer. One commenter brought a third storage method into the conversation: the freezer. “I put mine in the freezer and take out what I need as and when,” they wrote.
