Shoppers and businesses on one of Nottingham's main shopping streets have expressed their hope as a developer has likened the area to London's Carnaby Street. It comes as ALB Group, a developer who championed for the regeneration of Bridlesmith Gate, has announced all 14 properties it bought on the shopping street have now been let. Of the 14 premises, some of them are located on nearby Byard Lane, which has been populated by businesses such as Coco Tang Café, and Brik Barbers.

Seven units were also bought and let on nearby Lister Gate in a bid to regenerate the once-thriving street. The developer's regeneration project started in 2021 and managing director Arran Bailey says that the improvements were achieved despite setbacks that resulted from Broad Marsh works. He said: "I’m Nottingham born and bred and so knew the history of this area of town.



"My aim was to re-establish its vibrancy and appeal. By buying up empty units and injecting the spirit of creativity back into the area, I knew it would draw in independent as well as established retailers and re-establish its prestige." Businesses on Bridlesmith Gate have said they have noticed an increase in footfall, but trade could be boosted further.

Steven Cowan, store manager at Fopp, a music shop, said: "We've not been here that long, but the area seems to have picked itself up a bit. "You get a lot more people coming down, whereas when we moved in in July, it was a bit quiet. If more units get filled, this area could be.
