We’re nine games into the new Championship campaign and so far Coventry City are trailing in the battle for Midlands bragging rights. With Birmingham and Leicester no longer in the division for contrasting reasons – Blues having dropped to League One and the Foxes returning to the Premier League – the nearest thing the Sky Blues have to local rivals this season are Derby County, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion. I’ve been really impressed, considering the jump from the quality in League One compared to the Championship is generally regarded as a huge one. Paul Warne has done a brilliant job of putting together a team that works incredibly hard for each other. There are no big-time Charlies and the club just feels in a really good place.



That’s not to say there aren’t challenges to overcome, and obviously, it’s still early days. But if you’d asked Derby fans, given the squad has largely been made up of free transfers and loans with the odd fee paid here and there, they’d be happy with the start they have made. It’s given Derby a great platform from which to bui.
