SHERWOOD'S return has been officially confirmed with a first look trailer dropping. The smash-hit crime drama had fans gripped when it aired its first series in 2022. Despite a long wait for the second instalment, Beeb bosses have finally revealed fans don't have much longer until they can get their next fix.

Lesley Manville, Sharlene Whyte, Ria Zmitrowicz, Philip Jackson, Aisling Loftus are among the stars who feature in the first look trailer. Sherwood, which was created by James Graham, will land on screens on Sunday, August 25th with a double bill. Teasing the second series, bosses revealed it will follow the same themes as the first run, but with two new families introduced.

Set in the present day, both clans will find themselves entangled with the Sparrows, entering a complex web of local gangs. A teaser reads: "A newly appointed Sheriff of Nottingham is passionately fighting against a proposed new mine for the area, which brings the promise of much needed jobs and prosperity but also unwelcome reminders of the legacy that has mired the community for so long." The second series of Sherwood was filmed last summer as The Sun revealed how Lesley Manville and David Morrissey were reprising their roles.

It's first series saw it scoop three BAFTA TV awards for Best Drama Series, Supporting Actor and Actress. During the run fans were left stunned as Stephen Tompkinson was left unrecognisable . He rocked grey long curly hair, rather than his usual short do, and facial hair.
