Those who have someone in their life that is difficult to shop for on Christmas — or even those who have friends who are easy to buy for — might find the perfect gift this weekend at the Sheltowee Artisans Guild’s Holiday Market/Art Fair. The arts and craft show will take place at the Center for Rural Development from 10 a.m.

to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

“It’s got the makings of a really good show, so we’ll just have to wait and see,” said long-time Sheltowee artisan David Spillman. His speciality is woodturning, creating items from bowls to display pieces like mushrooms or Christmas ornaments. But Spillman is quick to point out all of the other artisans who will be at the fair, noting that there is an expected 77 exhibitors to be found at 70 booths.

There will be other woodworkers, such as “one fellow coming in from La Grange, Ky.,” Spillman said, who makes charcuterie boards. There will also be toy makers, pottery artisans, painters, photographers, jewelry makers, quilters, basket weavers, stained glass workers, gemstone crafters, and even some food booths.

Spillman said Karen Crepps of Karen’s Catering will be on hand, as well as Battlefield Coffee among other people selling snackable items. Spillman also noted that one special booth will be set up for an artist who died last year. “Jay Perkins from Monticello,” Spillman said.

“His work was absolutely fantastic. He did outdoor scenes.” Perkins left quite a bit of work behind, Spillman said,.
