Elana Korey, a Duxbury High School graduate who died in a on July 28, was kind, charismatic and a source of strength, those who knew her say. "She was an amazing young lady," Duxbury photographer Tommy Colbért said of Korey. The crash, on Interstate 89 near Montpelier, also killed , 19, of Duxbury.
"The tragedy we all feel down here in Duxbury is beyond any words that I could describe," Colbért said. Colbért said Korey showed "nothing but kindness" to his daughter Sophia after Sophia enrolled at Duxbury High for her senior year. He took a picture of Korey for her senior yearbook.
"It is with immense sadness in my heart that I post this photograph of Elana Korey," . Colbért said his thoughts are with the families of Korey and Delaney and the "unthinkable pain" they are suffering. Korey was a rising junior at the University of Arkansas and belonged to the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.
"We are deeply heartbroken to share that one of our sisters, Elana Korey (Rho PC), has passed away," the sorority . "She meant so much to so many. She was a close friend, a confidant, and a constant source of strength and joy.
Her presence in our lives was a gift we will forever cherish, and the void she leaves behind feels immense. "Elana radiated joy and love, and the world was so much better because of it." Korey's sorority sisters said they will never forget her.
"You were the most charismatic human I know," one posted on Facebook. "The world didn't know a kinder soul." "To know Elana was to love her," another wrote.
"She had such a beautiful and kind soul and truly lit up every room she walked into." "She was always there when you needed a shoulder to lean on," another sorority sister posted. "Elana was the type of girl whose inner and outer beauty captivated everyone," another wrote on Instagram.
Korey and Delaney were northbound on I-89 in Middlesex at about 5 a.m. when the crash occurred, police said.
Delaney was driving a 2006 Lexus ES330 and Korey was in the front passenger seat. Police said speed is believed to have contributed to the crash and no other vehicles were involved. Middlesex is just north of Montpelier and about 30 miles southeast of Burlington.
Delaney's employer remembered him last week as "an amazing young man." Delaney worked for ProEnviro in Hanover for about a year, . "He was just a great young kid," Mitton said.
