Shah Rukh Khan recently received the prestigious Pardo alla Carriera award, or Career Leopard, at the 77th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. The actor is the first Indian star to be celebrated with this honour for his contribution to cinema. At the film festival, he also presented the iconic film Devdas and later revealed that his production company Red Chillies Entertainment, has acquired the rights to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s opulent 2002 release.

Apart from SRK the film also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Jackie Shroff. A post shared by Indian Express Entertainment (@ieentertainment) SRK recalled the film's struggles at the time of its production and revealed that he had decided to work on the project. SRK recalled his parent's love for Dilip Kumar’s Devdas and said, “By the time Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to make this film, I think the general sentiment in India was that it felt outdated.

The country was undergoing a cultural shift towards a more liberalized mindset, with audiences increasingly gravitating towards lighter, commercial fare like college musicals." Calling it the most expensive film of its time SRK added, "Money issues, and producers vanishing, we had to complete the film in a few days. It went overtime, over budget, but I had a great time doing the film because I felt it kind of was a tribute.

.. memory to my mother who loved the film.

A lot of actors in Mumbai told me not to do the film. ‘This is not your zone. You are more pop culture’.

But I really wanted to do this because it was some kind of fulfilling of an unfinished dream and for my mother’s love." Over 8,000 fans from around the globe gathered at Locarno to witness Shah Rukh Khan receive the prestigious Pardo Alla Carriera Award. He made history as the first and only Indian, as well as the youngest recipient, to be honored with this distinguished accolade ♥️ #ShahRukhKhan pic.
