Pune: The district on Friday reported seven new confirmed Zika virus cases, taking the total count of such patients in Pune district to 100 at the moment. This is the highest ever recorded number of Zika cases in any district of Maharashtra till date. In 2024 as of Aug 16, the state has reported 113 confirmed Zika cases, of which 100 are from Pune district, 10 from Ahmednagar district, and one each from Kolhapur, Miraj and Solapur districts.

Of the 100 cases from Pune, 86 are from Pune city, nine from Pune rural, and five from under Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits. The seven new cases reported on Friday include one case from rural Pune and six from cases under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits. The six fresh cases in the city include a 36-year-old woman from Karvenagar, a 30-year-old woman from Bavdhan, and a 47-year-old man from Lohegaon.



They also include three pregnant women — a 22-year-old resident of Pashan, who is 24 weeks pregnant, a 28-year-old who is 14 weeks pregnant, and a 25-year-old from Lohegaon, who is 23 weeks pregnant.
