“The Decatur Dash Boat Race committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the boat race event in September 2024,” the city of Decatur said in a news release issued last week. “We could not come to an agreement with the NBRA and USTS racing groups regarding the necessary insurance and indemnification agreements, which are measures that protect the taxpayers of Decatur. We are disappointed we cannot host the September 2024 races but look forward to hosting future events on Lake Decatur.
" The Decatur Dash committee includes representatives from the city of Decatur, the Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Decatur Park District. The Decatur Dash-Hydro Racing on Lake Decatur had been scheduled for Sept. 6-8.
After a 20-year hiatus, boat racing returned to Lake Decatur for a successful two-day run on June 8 and 9. Hardy’s Highway Race for the Lake is expected to return next year..
