A man who was caught in possession of a hammer during widespread disorder in Bolton town centre has had his sentencing delayed. Daniel Robinson, of Leslie Street, Bolton, pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon in a public place at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 5. The 37-year-old was granted bail on the condition he does not enter Bolton town centre. He was due to be sentenced at Bolton Crown Court on Monday, September 2, however he was unrepresented and this was adjourned until Monday, September 23. Prosecutor Gavin Howie the incident had been caught on CCTV, with Robinson said to have been previously involved in an unrelated incident with tempers ‘running high’.
While the CCTV was said to not include the initial confrontation that led to tensions, the footage was said to contain Robinson running after ‘youths wearing balaclavas’. Judge Elliot Knopf adjourned the hearing in order to consider an application for a criminal behaviour order applied for by Greater Manchester Police, which would prevent Robinson from entering some parts of Bolton.
