Pune: A retired private company employee (65) from Chinchwad lost Rs21.5 lakh between May and July this year to an online share trading fraud . The victim told Nigdi police in his complaint on Saturday that in May this year, the complainant came into contact with a ‘share trading firm’ on a social media platform.

“He was then added to a group on a mobile messenger app to provide training for trading in the share market,” Waghmare said. A woman, who claimed to be an executive of a share trading company, started giving tips to the victim. He went on transferring amounts to the bank account numbers provided to him by the woman.



“The victim transferred Rs18 lakh to the different bank account numbers between May and July,” the officer said. The woman told the victim that he was allotted shares worth Rs20 lakh and told him to transfer the amount. “.

She requested him to lend money to her for her mother's treatment,” the officer said. Believing her, the victim transferred Rs3.5 lakh more to a bank account provided to him.

The woman had promised him that she would return the money. “The victim, on August 8, found that he was removed from the group on the mobile messenger app,” Waghmare said. The victim realised that he was duped and lodged the complaint, the officer said.
