Pune: State govt has invited suggestions from stakeholders to amend the Maharashtra Apartment Ownership Act , 1970 and they would be accepted till this month-end. State commissioner for cooperation and registrar of cooperative societies, Deepak Taware, has set the August-end deadline for submitting the suggestions. A 10-member committee constituted under him on June 7 is in talks with various stakeholders.
The final list of amendments would be given to the govt in early September. “We’re waiting for more suggestions,” Taware told TOI. Representations are being accepted at Taware’s office.
He said residents could also email their inputs. The state has over one lakh buildings under the apartment act . Pune district alone has more than 15,000.
Advocate Shreeprasad Parab, expert director of the Maharashtra State Cooperative Housing Federation Limited, emphasised on the need for revisions in the apartment ownership act. “The law should be amended to define and protect the rights and duties of the association and apartment owners,” he said. Shrinivas Moghe, an association member, said amendment that would allow citizens to approach deputy registrars in case of cooperative housing societies would help.
