A high street fashion chain is said to be closing more of its stores in the coming weeks, including multiple branches in the North East . It was reported earlier this month that Select, which currently operates more than 80 stores on high streets across the UK, was due to close a dozen of its branches imminently. However, the struggling clothing chain, which previously fell into administration in 2008 and then again in 2019, is now reportedly planning to close 35 locations permanently by March 15.
According to documents seen by The Sun, the fashion chain's shops in South Shields and Ashington are expected to close their doors in the coming weeks, as well as the Peterlee and Hartlepool branches in County Durham , which were previously named as earmarked for closure at the start of February. It is understood Select will have just 48 stores left after the closures have taken place, compared to 169 stores before its administration in 2019, The Mirror reports . The news follows a string of recent closures for Select, with the retailer's sites in Wolverhampton and Kidderminster already having shut their doors at the start of the year.
The fashion chain also confirmed several closures in 2024 including in Ipswich, Kent, and Cwmbran, as well as the Erith Riverside Shopping Centre in London. Select also operates stores in the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland , in Washington and in Cramlington , with the future of these sites so far unconfirmed but not believed to be affected by t.
