A secret Dorset beach has been hailed as one of Britain's best for its crystal clear waters and private location. Man O'War beach in West Lulworth, Wareham is situated along the stunning Jurassic Coast, and has now been recognised for its beauty. In a list of beaches that are "a little further off the beaten coast path", Man O'War was praised for its "stunning clear waters".

In the list, which was compiled by the Independent , the publication wrote: "The summer months are the most attractive time to visit the British coastline , but also the busiest. With that in mind, we’ve found some UK beaches a little further off the beaten coast path." Speaking of the Man O'War site, the paper added: "This picturesque Dorset cove is located on the Jurassic Coast , a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Visitors can access the hidden beach by climbing down a flight of 150 hillside steps and following a steep path – which is 15 minutes from the nearest car park. Man O’War Beach features both sand and pebbles, while the cherry on the cake is its stunning clear waters for taking a dip." And the beach is surrounded by top notch hotels where you can stay while venturing out to the hidden shoreline.

One that deserves a mention is The King's Arms in Dorchester, which "features chic interior details". It also has private parking, a restaurant, an outdoor terrace and its reception desk is manned 24 hours a day. In order to reach the beach, its recommended to park your car at the Durdle Door Holiday Park and walk down.

Due to the steep path you need to tred to reach the sands, decent footwear is "essential", according to Visit Dorset . It's also advised to take whatever you need with you as there are no amenities available on the beach itself. The tourism site adds: "Man O' War beach is accessed by a steep path and steps - not suitable for wheelchair users, mobility scooters or those who have mobility problems.

It is a 15-minute walk from the car park to the viewpoint and steps down onto the beach.".
