Described as a Victorian jewel on our doorstep brimming with historical intrigue and scenic walks, Clevedon beach has long established itself as a destination meriting attention. The area, having received praise from the likes of celebrated poet John Betjeman as 'the most beautiful pier in England', continues to captivate visitors. The historically significant pier, which underwent reconstruction following a notorious collapse in 1970, now features quaint cafes and restaurants, alongside informative displays regarding its past.

Following its collapse, local residents rallied together to save it from destruction, a remarkable achievement that saw it reopened over the Severn Estuary in 1989. Its beauty is undeniable, so much so that boy band One Direction selected it as the filming location for their hit 'Story of my Life', offering stunning views of the historic pier throughout the song. Clevedon itself is a charming Victorian seaside resort situated at the mouth of the River Severn, complete with cafes and bars lining the popular promenade frequented by fishermen.

The well-known website 'Day out with the Kids' highly recommends Clevedon as a family beach destination, stating: "Clevedon Beach Is a great starting point if you want to explore the beautiful nature routes in the region." For a picturesque picnic spot, they suggest the Poet's Walk, promising a view that's truly breathtaking. Moreover, the adjacent rocky beach area, recognised for its unique geological formations, has been designated for specific scientific study, offering even more beautiful treks for nature enthusiasts.

One glowing TripAdvisor review enthused: "What is most incredible about Clevedon Pier is that it hasn't been commercialised." The commendation extended to local community efforts, as another said: "Good on the local people who worked tirelessly for almost two decades to raise the money to rebuild it after its collapse during stress testing in 1970. The Toll House at the entrance is a lovely place and has some interesting items for sale.

" Furthermore, the recommendation: "Well worth a visit, particularly to watch the sun set on a good day." An additional testimony highlighted: "Had a super walk along the pier. It is great to see how it has been beautifully preserved and we could see why it has won awards.

" Adding to the experience, it mentioned: "It was lovely to enjoy a cup of coffee at the end of the pier from the small cafe. Most definitely well worth visiting and paying the modest entrance fee." So with summer now coming to an end a trip to Clevedon could be just what you need, and the best part is, you won't spend all day in the car.
