Pune: The Haveli police have sent a team to Madhya Pradesh to continue their search for the main suspect in the abduction and brutal murder case of a 70-year-old govt contractor of Donje village. A Pune rural police team is camping at a location in MP, where the suspect is believed to be hiding after the crime. The police are also looking for the torso and head of the victim, whose other body parts were recovered from the Khadakwasla dam waters.

Victim Vithhal Polekar was abducted from Donje village on Nov 14. The prime suspect had demanded Rs2 crore and a luxury car from Polekar, two days before the act. Later, the suspects hacked Polekar to death with billhooks, cut the body into several pieces and threw it in the Khadakwasla dam.

On Nov 16, some of the body parts were found. The Pune rural police team arrested three men — Rohit Bhame (26) of Donje and Shubham Sonawane (24) and Milind Thorat (24) of Ahilyanagar. Bhame's brother, who is a criminal on police records, is the prime suspect in the case.

Inspector Sachin Wangade of the Haveli police told TOI that Rohit is in police custody till Nov 21 and the other two till Nov 24. "The search for the victim's torso and head is going on," Wangade said, adding that Bhame fled to MP after the murder. "Our team is stationed there to nab him.
