In the first, Blank reveals Lightnin’ Hopkins’ inspiration and features a generous helping of classic blues.

The film includes performances at a barbecue and a black rodeo and a visit to his boyhood town of Centerville, Texas. The second film spotlights Texas bluesman Mance Lipscomb, considered by many to be the greatest blues guitarist and songster of all time. This portrait of the legendary musician, husband, and sharecropper is among Blank’s special masterworks in which he shows that instead of growing bitter, tough times made Lipscomb sweet.
