DOZENS of passengers were left stranded after their flight ‘had to be grounded’ when airport staff CLOCKED OFF for the night. They were all set to be aboard LoganAir flight LM344 from Stornoway, which was allegedly axed over the staffing situation at the airport. The airline issued an apology to the stranded flyers, as the CEO launched into a furious tirade against Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (HIAL). A statement posted to LoganAir’s Facebook page read: "Despite the airline providing an aircraft and crew to ensure the delayed flight could operate, it was cancelled owing to the unwillingness of the Highlands and Islands Airports Security team to remain available and present at the airport to handle the flight.

He said: "I am absolutely dismayed at the decision of the HIAL airport security team in Stornoway this evening to leave the airport and to refuse to handle the flight. "The 45 passengers who have been stranded will doubtless now have considerable disruption to their onward journeys, thanks to this decision by the HIAL airport security team.

"We know that many of these passengers will have been flying to Edinburgh to connect with international flights. "We sincerely hope this decision will be thoroughly investigated, and that it is a unique, one-off event driven by exceptional circumstances, and that in future the teams from Loganair and HIAL will work together to ensure customers always come first.

" Chaos at Scots airport as planes grounded and thousands of holidaymakers left in limbo HIAL have been approached for comment. Stornoway Airport has been caught up in a fresh travel situation this morning, An ATC fault has seen passengers in Inverness hit with a string of delays and cancellations . Inverness Airport is facing major disruption due to a technical issue with air traffic control equipment.

The incident is affecting flights departing to Amsterdam, Heathrow, Stornoway, Gatwick, Sumburgh and Bristol. British Airways, easyJet and Loganair have been caught up in the disruption. It comes as scores of passengers were caught up in travel chaos at Edinburgh Airport after it was hit by the global Microsoft outage .

Some travellers were left stranded by the tech crash as long winding queues formed outside the terminal. More than 50 flights were axed amid the day of worldwide chaos. Some passengers were even forced to stay in parts of the airport .
