A HEROIC Scots dad has tragically died in hospital one month after a horror assault in Wales. Andrew Main, 33, suffered critical injuries after being set upon by two men whilst working in Swansea four weeks ago. 3 Andrew tragically passed away in hospital yesterday Credit: JustGiving 3 Andrew was attacked whilst working in Swansea Credit: JustGiving 3 Andrew with his dog Dottie Credit: JustGiving The doting dad-of-two, from Falkirk , saw the men attack his young colleague on Princess Way in the early hours of Wednesday, July 17, and tried to help him.

But the situation escalated and Andrew, who has a six-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son, was rushed to hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries. The freelance festival worker was found to have sustained "significant, widespread brain damage" and was put on life support in the University Hospital of Wales ' ICU. His heartbroken family rushed to Heath, Cardiff , to be with him before he was transferred to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh two weeks later.

Tragically, his family had to switch off his life support machine and began looking at end-of-life care. We are absolutely heartbroken to say that Andrew is in the arms of our angels.

He is and always will be our HERO Sharon Leebody Andrew's sister Last night, his heartbroken sister Sharon Leebody, 38, told how Andrew had passed away peacefully at 12.08pm surrounded by love and his family. Paying tribute to her brother online, she said: "We are absolutely heartbroken to say that Andrew is in the arms of our angels and left us today at 12.

His niece also took to social media to pay her respects, adding that he will be "forever in our hearts".

She wrote: "We’re all absolutely devastated and heartbroken at the loss of Andrew Alexander Main. "You’re forever in our hearts Uncle Andrew. Gone but never forgotten".

While his big sister Nikki also posted: "Broken beyond belief, our beautiful wee brother". One person said: "Sending massive love to you and all the family at this heartbreaking moment, rest easy Mainy".

Another added: "I have no words. My heart is breaking for you all. Sending lots of love".

Someone else wrote: "Heartbroken is an understatement, so so devastating. GBNF". While a fourth commented: "I am so so sorry! He was such a laugh and had a heart of gold, my thoughts are with you all, especially his kids".

We previously told how Sharon opened up on the family's struggles over the last few weeks as they visited Andrew in hospital. She said: "It’s been absolutely terrifying and traumatic. My heart is absolutely shattered.

I feel like my family has been destroyed." Sharon and Nikki have launched a fundraiser to help raise money to take the pressure off the family during this difficult time. On the page, they shared Andrew's story and called him a "hero" for trying to help his colleague.

Full statement by South Wales Police A statement from the South Wales Police said: "Two men have been charged following a serious assault on Princess Way, Swansea in the early hours of Wednesday morning. "26-year-old Joseph Dix, from Frome, Somerset, and 27-year-old Macauley Ruddock, from Bath, Somerset, have both been charged with Section 18 assault. "The male victim remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition.

"If you witnessed this incident, please contact South Wales Police quoting 2400237176." Detective Inspector Carl Price said: "We want to speak with anyone who witnessed this assault, which took place in proximity to the entrance to Travelodge on Princess Way at around 2am on Wednesday July 17." They wrote: "On Wednesday 17th June, Andrew saw a young colleague of his being attacked by two men - we all know Andrew and how heroic he is so he went out to help the young boy.

"This has ended horrifically for Andrew." They added: "It's heartbreaking enough but feel we need to add that Andrew, Sharon and Nikki lost their mum in a similar way, with a brain haemorrhage, also in Edinburgh. "Andrew was only 11 years old when he went through this and anyone who knows Andrew will know how greatly this affected him.

"This is obviously very traumatic and triggering for the whole family. I am so so sorry! He was such a laugh and had a heart of gold, my thoughts are with you all, especially his kids Tribute online "They also lost their dad just four years later, and in more recent years their grandparents." Sharing an update on Tuesday, the sisters added: "The family are absolutely distraught but thank everyone for the help and support".

South Wales Police confirmed that two men from Somerset, aged 26 and 27, have been charged following the serious assault. Detective Inspector Carl Price said: "We want to speak with anyone who witnessed this assault, which took place in proximity to the entrance to Travelodge on Princess Way at around 2am on Wednesday July 17."
