1 2 Prayagraj: A 17-year-old girl was killed, and four others (aged between 15 and 17 years) sustained injuries when a speeding, overloaded truck hit them from the back near Tikuri Samhan village on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway in Meja area on Tuesday afternoon, police said. Irked over the incident, villagers set the truck on fire and created a ruckus for almost three hours. The incident took place when the girls were returning home on cycles from their college.

Additional DCP (Yamuna Nagar) Abhijeet Kumar told TOI: "Saraswati Mishra, a student of class 11, died on the spot while the hand of one girl (Simran) was trapped under the rear wheels of the truck. It took 30 minutes to rescue the girl. Two other girls (Ritu and Radha), who sustained minor injuries, were given first aid at nearby hospitals and discharged.



" He said upon being alerted, senior police officials along with a rescue team armed with a hydraulic lift, fire extinguishers, and ambulances rushed to the spot and carried out rescue work. Kumar said Simran was admitted to SRN Hospital where her condition was stated to be stable. The ADCP said the body has been sent for postmortem and an FIR under the appropriate section was registered against the errant truck driver.

The official further said the driver has been arrested and the role of policemen on duty, who allowed the truck to enter this route, was under scanner and action would be initiated accordingly..
