Prayagraj: Taking another step towards passenger convenience, the Prayagraj division of North Central Railways (NCR) has introduced the facility of paying for reserved and unbooked tickets through digital payment using a ‘quick response’ (QR) code. Initially, the facility was introduced on a trial basis at one reservation ticket counter of Prayagraj Junction in July this year. It has now been extended to two additional counters.

In addition to this, all the unreserved ticketing systems (UTS) at Prayagraj Junction will have this facility. The facility has been started as a trial on one counter each for reserved and unreserved ticket booking and will soon be introduced at all the counters of Prayagraj Junction. In Prayagraj division, this facility has been made available at one reserved ticket counter each at Kanpur central, Aligarh junction, and Mirzapur station, and at one unreserved counter at Kanpur central through QR code .

“Payment through UPI app in ticket distribution is playing an important role in the development of passenger facilities. Payment facility through QR display device will be made available at all stations of Prayagraj division this year itself,” said Himanshu Shukla, senior divisional commercial manager, Prayagraj division. “We understand that Maha Kumbh is not limited to Prayagraj or a few adjoining districts.

In fact, all the stations of our division cater to the devotees coming to Prayagraj for the mega religious event, and for that, a speedy and transparent payment methodology at the ticket counters is a must. Payment through QR scan would be handy,” said Shukla. The facility is also helpful for railway passengers as, in many instances, the problem of the exact amount of change was an issue that would often become a point of argument between the dealing clerk and the customer.

Paying through QR scan will resolve this major problem too.
