Wednesday, August 14, 2024 The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) recently organized “Brewtopia – A Qahwa Experience” in Bengaluru, an exclusive gathering designed for travel trade partners. Hosted at Olive Beach this August, the event welcomed 30 travel trade association members to delve into the depths of Saudi’s celebrated coffee heritage. The primary goals of the gathering were to reinforce destination memory, elevate Saudi coffee as a prime souvenir, and strengthen trade relationships through genuine cultural exchanges.

A compelling presentation detailed the history of coffee, recognizing Arabia as the original hub for the famous Arabica bean. Participants discovered the origins of the term “coffee,” derived from “qahwa,” which translates to “wine of the bean.” This backdrop set the stage for exploring how modern Saudi coffee traditions are interwoven with these historical threads.

The showcase included a live demonstration of traditional qahwa brewing techniques, drawing a parallel to similar practices in India influenced by historic spice trade routes. Under the skilled guidance of Ganga and Pavan, founders of Coffee Mechanics and Kana, attendees engaged with the brewing process using a French press. The qahwa was then presented in small ceramic cups, complemented by Medjool dates, served from a traditional brass Dallah to encapsulate the essence of Saudi Hafawah or hospitality.

The event also featured a networking segment where attendees mingled with the STA team, exchanging insights about Saudi destinations such as Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, along with unique experiences in AlUla and Al Baha. Discussions also covered topics like itinerary options, visa facilitation, and increased flight connections with Bengaluru. Through such initiatives, STA continues its mission to showcase Saudi as a dynamic tourism destination and deepen ties with travel industry partners across India.
