Wednesday, November 6, 2024 The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) launched its ambitious ‘Gateway to Borneo’ campaign at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, inviting global tourists to discover Sarawak’s unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and sustainable tourism initiatives. The campaign aims to position Sarawak as a premier travel destination, highlighting its pristine landscapes and diverse heritage within the heart of Borneo. Leading Sarawak’s delegation, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, introduced the campaign, emphasizing the importance of responsible tourism.
“Sarawak’s ‘Gateway to Borneo’ isn’t just an entry point; it’s an immersive journey into a land where tradition meets environmental stewardship. We’re committed to sharing our heritage and pioneering eco-friendly tourism for generations to come,” he remarked. The UK is a key market for Sarawak, contributing over 34% of long-haul visitors.
From January to September 2024, visitor numbers from the UK rose by 7.73%, underscoring growing interest in Sarawak’s sustainable travel experiences.
