ASKED to recall memories of her late friend and fellow musician, Jack Colwell, Sarah Blasko instantly reflects on the "ridiculous things" the pair did together. "I always called him my 'young friend' because he was 13 years younger than me," Blasko tells Weekender this week.
"He brought a lot to me and my family. He was always up for anything and we did ridiculous things together like finally getting our licenses a couple of years ago. "He was always up for a project or a mission or a ridiculous thing.
I'll always love those memories of all those ridiculous things we did together." Colwell died on October 3 aged 34. His death sent shock waves through the Australian music scene and led to an outpouring of grief.
The Sydneysider was a talented singer-songwriter with a Rufus Wainwright-style flair for the theatrical and raw honesty. Blasko played a prominent role in Colwell's career, producing his 2020 debut Swandream , which NME and Junkee placed on their album-of-the-year lists. Colwell left behind a second album, which Blasko has heard and is eager for the public to experience.
"His record Swandream is something I will always treasure because I think he really got to say a lot of things that he always needed to say in his life through that record," Blasko says. "It will always be something to hold onto. It's something .
