The People’s Republic of China has shown its commitment to their friendship with Samoa as Huizhou donated 40 new computers to Samoa College including a funding of 200,000RMB ($76,450 Samoan Tala). This donation is part of the friendship between the college and its sister school Hua Luogeng Middle School in Huizhou that started in 2015.

The funding presented was the launch of the Huizhou-Apia Friendship Fund. The ceremony was attended by teachers, students, Ambassador of China to Samoa Fei Mingxing and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Education and Culture Tuaopepe Perenise Tinei. To show Huizhou’s commitment to their friendship to Samoa College, a delegation from Huizhou led by the Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of Huizhou Municipal People’s Congress Zhang Weirong travelled to Samoa to present the donations and funding.



Speaking on behalf of Samoa College, Principal Karene Faasisila gave thanks to the people of Huizhou for the donation. Ms. Faasisila says that the computers will play an integral role in enhancing student learning and will go a long way assisting the education of Samoa College student.

“Faafetai Faafetai tele lava,” she says. “We hope that we can continue this friendship and partnership with the beautiful people if Huizhou especially with our sister school. She said they ‘look forward to future programmes to enrich cultural’ and ‘educational exchanges’ between the schools and extended her thank to them for taking the time to be with them today.

Speaking on behalf of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, Ambassador Fei Mingxing says, that local cooperation, people to people exchanges, and cultural and educational exchanges are important components of the relationship between China and Samoa. “Since Huizhou and Apia established sister-ship, the two sides have carried out a series of cooperation projects with remarkable achievements.” Including the Samoa Culture and Arts Centre and the China-Samoa Friendship Park which have become landmarks of friendship between the two countries.

“The sister-ship between Hua Luogeng Middle School and Samoa College has been a good story for our bilateral educational and cultural exchanges,” he says. Ambassador Fei also explained that next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Samoa, and the 10th anniversary of the sister-ship between Huizhou and Apia. “I am looking forward to your continued joint efforts in contributing to building a closer China-Samoa community with a shared future!” he says.
