Sam Konstas, the 19-year-old Australian batter did what many young cricketers around the world would aspire to do — reverse-lap Jasprit Bumrah for a six in his debut Test match for the country. At just 19 years and 85 days old, Sam Konstas made his international debut for Australia and fearlessly took on the world’s top-ranked Test bowler on the opening day of the India vs Australia Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Thursday, December 26. Konstas, who became the youngest player ever to open the batting in a Test match for Australia, came out and took no time to show intent after Australia opted to bat first in the fourth IND vs AUS Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.
Konstas faced all six deliveries off Bumrah in the very first over of the match without scoring. However, in the third and Bumrah’s second, Konstas made his intentions very clear by trying and missing a reverse-scoop. He missed one again in the same fashion in the fifth over.
However, come the seventh and Bumrah’s fourth over, Konstas’ audaciousness paid him huge dividends. He began the over with a reverse-ramp for four off Bumrah’s very first delivery, followed by a spectacular six, electrifying the packed crowd at the MCG. He hit another four in the over by reverse-ramping Bumrah and got 16 runs off the over — the most Bumrah had conceded in the series.
