Saturday, August 17, 2024 In a shocking incident early Saturday morning, twenty-two coaches of the Sabarmati Express, traveling from Varanasi to Sabarmati, derailed near Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, triggering panic among passengers. The mishap occurred shortly after the train departed Kanpur, with the derailment taking place near Bhimsen, blocking a crucial route for trains heading towards Mumbai. The derailment, which took place around 2:30 am, left passengers in a state of panic as they were jolted awake by the loud noise and sudden halt of the train.

North Central Railway (NCR) senior public relations officer Shashikant Tripathi confirmed the incident, which caused significant disruption to rail traffic in the area. Seven trains have been cancelled, and three others have been diverted as a result of the accident. Indian Railways revealed that the derailment was caused by the train hitting a boulder, which resulted in significant damage to the engine’s cattle guard.



In response, the Indian Railways has dispatched buses to facilitate the transfer of stranded passengers to Kanpur. Meanwhile, an investigation into the incident has been launched to determine the exact cause and to prevent future occurrences. To assist those affected, the Railways has also issued emergency helpline numbers for concerned stations.
