Friday, October 4, 2024 Rwanda remains a safe destination for travel, tourism, and business, despite the recent outbreak of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD), according to the Rwanda Development Board (RDB). The Ministry of Health has confirmed that the virus is contained, and there is no threat to public health. In response to reports of a potential spread and a travel advisory issued by the United States, RDB, the government agency responsible for promoting tourism and investment, reassured the public that Rwanda remains safe and fully open.

The swift and proactive containment measures implemented have successfully managed the situation. In a statement released on Thursday night, RDB emphasized that while Marburg is a serious virus, it is not airborne and can only be transmitted through direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or contaminated surfaces of symptomatic individuals. “Rwanda remains open for business,” the statement read, highlighting that businesses should continue operations while adhering to enhanced hygiene protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health.

These include conducting temperature checks and providing handwashing or sanitizing stations at building entrances to ensure the health and safety of staff and customers. RDB assured that these measures will help businesses function smoothly while prioritizing public health. The agency further committed to providing updated information as necessary and addressing any concerns businesses may have.
