It has been over fifteen years since the last “Rush Hour” movie, and while there has been talk of a fourth one over the years – not much has ever come to fruition. Part of the problem is the involvement of Brett Ratner. The filmmaker directed the three previous entries and has, on prior occasions, discussed a desire to do a fourth.
However, the director was accused of sexual misconduct by six different women in 2017. He denied the allegations, and was never charged with anything, but he also hasn’t directed a film since 2014. reports that Warner Bros.
Discovery-owned New Line Cinema, who distributed the prior films, allowed “Rush Hour 4” to be licensed out to others a while back. Producer Tarak Ben Ammar retains the rights to make the movie at his Eagle Pictures banner and is looking for potential partners. Arthur Sarkissian also remains attached to produce wherever it ends up.
The trouble is, according to the trade’s sources, the pitch for the film included Ratner as director/producer, which is a non-starter for several studios including Sony and Paramount. Representatives for Ammar have denied Rattner’s attachment to the project. Ammar did reportedly meet with Lionsgate last month about the possibility of doing the film there, no word as to how that turned out.
Neither Jackie Chan nor Chris Tucker are officially attached to return as the film’s leads at this time..
