Choriza May, is a well-known Spanish-British performer who appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race for the first time in 2021. After their first appearance, they then went on to appear on the beloved TV programme again in Spain. “Drag Race really gave me the platform that I needed to take my art to the next level,” said Choriza.

“The planets have aligned, and to be able to do my one woman show and the fact I’ve been on drag race multiple times, this really feels like the jewel on the crown, it’s a gift to me and it’s a gift that I’m ready to give back to all the fans.” Now, working on their act and developing a show, Choriza is about to embark on their first UK tour. “After years of doing drag this is my first one woman show, so it’s really a compilation of everything I have been working on for the past few years,” said Choriza.

“It’s written by myself, with standup comedy and very uplifting music . I’m just very excited for that.” The Choriza May Show will be coming to Pyramid next month for one night only on September 21 at 7.

30pm. “It tells the story of Choriza through the fact that she has just died and ended up in hell and she doesn’t think she deserves to be in hell – she’s been a good person a good drag queen,” said Choriza. “The whole show I’m going to reflect on my life and figure out where everything went wrong and hopefully at the end of the show, I’ll redeem myself and go where I belong which is heaven.

“The concept of the show is taking all what the conservatives and the religious sector say about queer people, that we should go to hell, and taking that and turning it into a show. “I want people to come and enjoy themselves and hopefully learn that we don’t have to take things too seriously.” Choriza May took inspiration from Theresa May when creating their drag name, after Brexit caused issues for them residing in the UK.

“The first time that I heard their name I thought they were saying chorizo like the Spanish sausage, so I was like ‘who’s this sausage lady who is trying to make my life more difficult,” they said. “I wasn’t even doing drag at the time and I thought ‘if I ever do drag my name is going to be Choriza May’.” When planning the tour, a conscious effort was made to ensure that towns were visited as well, rather than exclusively stopping in cities, so that fans across the UK could get tickets.

“It was very important for me that we didn’t just take it to the big cities like London or Manchester,” they said. “It was important that we also went to the smaller ones where people really appreciate it, and I come form a small town myself and I didn’t feel very represented. “I didn’t feel very represented or see people like me growing up, so to go to beautiful cities and smaller towns it just really means the world.

“Drag is important, our stories are important because people relate to them and it’s just so beautiful that I have this platform to tell my story in a funny way and hopefully inspire others.” Tickets for The Choriza May Show can be found here , and start at £18.75 each, with around 30 fans getting the chance to take a photo with Choriza after the show.
