The franchise started as an animated TV series that debuted on Nickelodeon in 1991, created by Arlene Kaspy, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain. The series followed a group of toddlers including Tommie Pickles, Chuckie Finster, Phil and Lil Deville, and their various adventures, many of which that take place in their imaginations. The series spawned a number of animated spin-offs, movies, video games and more but now this franchise is heading into the live-action/animation hybrid realm.

The film will be directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect, Sisters), working from a script by SNL writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell, via Deadline .
