Ruben Amorim has warned Manchester United fans that the January transfer window is not going to save their season. The Red Devils suffered a humbling 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United on December 30 to end 2024 in miserable fashion. They are 14th in the Premier League standings heading into the new year and have suffered six defeats in December, their most in a single month since September 1930.

Fans have been desperate to see the transfer window open on January 1 so that United can look for some reinforcements. Their summer signings have largely failed to impress — striker Joshua Zirkzee was cheered off the pitch by vitriolic supporters at Old Trafford during the first half of the Newcastle defeat — and there is widespread concern that the current squad simply do not suit Amorim's favoured 3-4-3 system. But the head coach dealt a major blow to those hopes of fresh faces when speaking to the media after the loss to the Magpies.

You know the situation better than me. "It is not that I am arriving here and know I can spend money changing the team.
