Roy Calvin Karl January 30, 1933 – August 24, 2024 Roy Calvin Karl, 91, of Brazoria, Texas, departed this world to be with his Lord and Savior on August 24, 2024. Roy was born on January 30, 1933, along with his twin brother, Ray, on the Karl homestead near Shippenville, Pennsylvania. He was one of five children born to John and Wilda (Whitmer) Karl.

At the age of five, Roy began his schooling in a one-room schoolhouse, where he attended for eight years before being bussed to Shippenville High School, from which he graduated. After graduation, Roy enlisted in the United States Air Force and was assigned to the Air Police Squadron in Fort Worth, Texas. It was in the Carswell Air Force Base cafeteria that Roy met a beautiful, sweet girl working at the soda fountain, Ruby Blackstock.

Roy and Ruby were married on December 24, 1952. They were married for 64 years and shared their birthdays together, as they were born on the exact same day. After his enlistment ended in 1954, Roy worked as a milkman in Fort Worth, and the couple was blessed with their first son.

In 1955, while the family lived in Pennsylvania, their second son was born. The family returned to Texas in 1955, where Roy began his 40-year career at Dow Chemical Company in Freeport. Within the next few years, the family was blessed with two more sons, in 1956 and 1958.

The four boys went on to bless Roy and Ruby with nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Regardless of where they lived, the family always found a place to worship, giving thanks to the Lord for caring for them and providing friends. Roy was ordained as a deacon at Jones Creek Baptist Church and was an active deacon at First Baptist Church of Brazoria, Texas.

Roy was met in Heaven by his wife, Ruby Blackstock Karl; his parents, John and Wilda (Whitmer) Karl; his sister, Lois Budzinski; his brothers, Gerald Karl and Ray Karl; and his daughter-in-law, Karen Karl. Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Dorthy Hoover; his sons, Ernest Karl and wife, Donice, Gary Karl and wife, Evelyn, Terry Karl and wife, Shari, and Donald Karl and wife, Christel; his nine grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; and countless friends.
