Lynn English boys soccer coach Valdrim Xhemajli kept it honest after Tuesday’s game against host Malden. “Started off slow,” he said. But it’s not necessarily how you start; it’s how you finish.

After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs “really picked it up in the second half,” according to Xhemajli, and left with a 4-0 win. English scored a quick second-half goal from Jose Licardie, assisted by Matthew Coelho (2 assists). Licardie put the pressure on Malden with his second goal – this time, off an Alfredo Lopez delivery.

Sammy Vasquez scored his first varsity goal off a corner kick played in by Licardie (3-0). Then, Vasquez doubled up, scoring another corner-kick goal to put it away. “It was our first clean sheet this season, thanks to goalkeeper Alejandro Zayas,” Xhemajli said.
