Celebrated designer Rohit Bal, who has dressed many Indian and Hollywood celebrities, passed away at the age of 63 on Friday at a South Delhi hospital. Rohit, who was unwell for almost a year, made his last public appearance at the ramp of the Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI 2024 last month. The designer was reportedly in the ICU for a week before his last show.
As per reports, he was hospitalised in Delhi in November last year after experiencing severe chest pain. That's when he was diagnosed with DCM or dilated cardiomyopathy. The heart muscles of the patients suffering from this condition weaken and enlarge, and because of this, their heart won't be able to pump enough blood to the rest of the body.
Many reasons, ranging from genetic factors, viral infections, nutritional deficiencies, autoimmune diseases, hypertension and alcohol abuse to medications and toxins, and metabolic disorders, can cause the condition of dilated cardiomyopathy. Its symptoms often develop slowly, which results in people brushing them aside.
