The early career of Robson Green and his breakthrough Green was born in Hexham, Northumberland on December 18, 1964 to pit worker Robson and cleaner and shopkeeper Ann Green. Inspired by jets flying overhead, Green joined the Air Training Corps at age 16, but left after two weeks at an officer training camp. Green worked as a draughtsman at Swan Hunter's shipyard and later formed his own band, Solid State, in 1982.
Green had a passion for acting and appeared in productions at school and at the Backworth Drama Centre, where he spent one night a week.
