Combining old-world charm with modern amenities, the historic Rizal Park Hotel is a reflection of Manila’s rich heritage even as it now appeals to contemporary travelers looking for a unique guest experience—something I can personally attest to following a recent stay. Originally built in 1911 as the building that housed the Manila Army Navy Club, a social club that catered initially, to American military personnel and civilians, and later Filipinos, it was considered a symbol of Manila’s social life for decades. Since it underwent re-development in recent years and re-opened as Rizal Park Hotel in 2017, the magnificent structure has maintained much of its dignified architecture as characterized by the numerous arches that exude classic elegance.

Upon entering its doors, guests are immediately transported to a bygone era by its intricate details. Instagram-worthy is an understatement to describe the awe-inspiring feel of being in its lobby alone. For both local and foreign tourists, Rizal Park Hotel’s location near Rizal Park makes it an ideal starting point who wish to explore the most sought-after historic spots in the nation’s capital.

Iconic churches like the San Agustin Church, the Manila Cathedral, the Malate Church, the Binondo Church, and the Quiapo Church are all accessible from here. Other tourist destinations like Intramuros, Fort Santiago, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Metropolitan Theater, the National Museums (of Natural History, Fine Arts and Anthropology), the Manila Ocean Park, and the Manila Yacht Club are also all within reach. Samantha Paz, Managing Director of Rizal Park Hotel acknowledged that proximity to these places is a big reason why guests can look forward to an “exceptional staycation experience.

” “The hotel’s prime location offers stunning views of Manila Bay, the Manila skyline, and Rizal Park itself, making every stay even more memorable. Whether relaxing in the beautifully appointed rooms or enjoying the breathtaking surroundings, guests can look forward to a luxurious and comfortable stay, complemented by outstanding service and top-notch amenities,” Paz pointed out. As amenities go, what Rizal Park Hotel offers is nothing short of impressive.

Guests can take daily dips at the infinity pool overlooking Manila Bay. The spacious rooms, like the Deluxe Room where I stayed, are equipped with contemporary conveniences like a flat-screen TV, and wi-fi connection which integrate seamlessly with the hotel’s classic look. “For dining options, Café Rizal offers a delightful blend of Filipino and Western dishes, while Imperial Court specializes in exquisite Chinese cuisine for a fine dining experience.

For a more relaxed setting, The Deck, the hotel’s rooftop bar, provides a stunning view of Manila Bay and Manila skyline along with great drinks and light bites,” Paz shared. As for service, the friendly staff, at least in my experience, go the extra mile in helping familiarize guests not just with the hotel but also in the area. Going to a nearby place, I was guided on which transportation mode is best whether it’s a cab, a Grab, or the tuk tuks just stationed near the Quirino Grandstand.

Taking the tuk tuk worked just fine and was way cheaper, too. In terms of how much the hotel has improved since it opened in 2017, Paz said “Numerous enhancements were done to improve guests’ experience, including upgrading the facilities and expanding service offerings.” As a result, “the hotel has attracted a diverse clientele, with a significant portion being families, business travelers, and tourists looking for a stay within Manila,” Paz further noted.

While any time is a great time to plan a staycation at Rizal Park Hotel, Paz suggests that it’s even better to avail of their occasional promo packages. “Our Barkada Package offers an overnight stay for 3 in a deluxe room with buffet breakfast for 3 for only P10,000. The Spa Package includes an overnight stay in a deluxe room with a buffet breakfast for 2 and a spa session for 2 for only P8,000.

The Family Weekend Package provides a stay for a family in a club twin room with a balcony, an in-room DIY Cupcake activity, and buffet breakfast for 4 for P14,000, and the Suite Dreams package offers a luxurious stay in a junior suite with breakfast for 2 for P6,000,” Paz revealed. All told, a taste of history paired with classic and modern elegance made my weekend stay here at Rizal Park Hotel pretty much memorable. I’m already looking forward to my next stay.
