Wednesday, October 2, 2024 RIU Hotels & Resorts is entering an exciting new phase under the leadership of Luis Riu Rodríguez and Roberto Riu Rodríguez, the fourth generation of the Riu family. As the sons of Luis Riu Güell, they have played a significant role in the company for several years, taking charge of its expansion projects, assessing investment opportunities, and directing the RIU Group’s Technical Advice Office (GAT). This office is central to the chain’s operations, responsible for the design, construction, refurbishment, and outfitting of new hotels.
Having begun their careers working closely with their father, the brothers now independently oversee various regions and projects, continuing the family’s active involvement in the business. Both Luis and Roberto are key drivers of RIU’s forward-thinking decarbonization strategy. Their efforts focus on implementing self-sustaining energy systems across the company’s hotels.
To date, they have managed the design and installation of 24 solar energy projects at 23 hotels, an investment exceeding €8.6 million, successfully reducing CO2 emissions by over 7,375 tonnes. RIU’s distinctive business model is founded on direct involvement in all aspects of its projects, from selecting hotel locations to managing construction and operations.
