Football icon Rio Ferdinand, musician and TV presenter Alesha Dixon, Love Island host Maya Jama and pop sensation Zayn Malik are among the high-profile celebrities leading nominations for the 2024 Ethnicity Awards. The shortlist for the star-studded event was unveiled today. The Ethnicity Awards, in partnership with HSBC UK, annually honours the most influential Black, Asian and Ethnic Minorities in the UK with prestigious awards recognising their accomplishments and efforts to promote diversity and inclusion.

Rio Ferdinand , who alongside a significant TV career heads a major social mobility charity providing opportunities for young people from racially diverse backgrounds, is up for a major award along with fellow sports stars Denise Lewis and Aston Villa footballer Tyrone Mings. Pop star turned TV presenter Alesha Dixon and former One Direction singer Zayn Malik are also contenders for a major award. They have been shortlisted alongside other musicians including Raye and legendary soul divas Gabrielle and Emeli Sande.



TV presenters Alison Hammond , Charlene White and Asad Ahmad have been acknowledged in the Broadcaster or Journalist of the Year category while the former editor of British Vogue, Edward Enniful, has been nominated for his work in advocating causes to promote equality. Tinie Tempah, AJ Odudu and BBC One Show presenter Jermaine Jenas are also vying for accolades at the dazzling event which takes place in London on 31 October. Businesses and brands known for championing diversity will also be acknowledged at the event, with Tesco , KPMG, Channel 4 and Network Rail among those shortlisted this year.

Charitable organisations such as Purple Rain Collective, The Diversity Trust and Black Minds Matter UK are also in the running for awards. Public voting is now open for certain categories at ethnicityawards.com.

Meanwhile, a panel of esteemed judges will meticulously review submissions to choose the winners in the business categories. The Outstanding Employer award will be decided based on the Investing in Ethnicity Maturity Matrix, a tool created to assist organisations in evaluating their advancement in promoting ethnic diversity and pinpoint opportunities to boost inclusivity in the workplace. Sarah Garrett MBE, founder of the Ethnicity Awards, expressed her delight:.

This prestigious event not only unites different communities but also stimulates the corporate world and individuals alike to stand behind a diverse Britain where belonging is the norm.
