The upcoming season 2 of Rings of Power has released a new trailer, showcasing the menacing rise of Sauron. The Prime Video series, set millennia before the events of the beloved Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, delves into the creation of the Rings of Power, an alliance between Elves and Men, and the ascension of the Dark Lord Sauron. Unveiled at San Diego Comic Con on Friday (July 26), the latest trailer centres on the dreaded return of the legendary villain Sauron, signalling the resurgence of darkness and evil in Middle-earth after years of hard-won peace across its realms.

The trailer also spotlights the forging of more of the eponymous Rings of Power, crafted with the help of Sauron's powers of deceit and manipulation. While Sauron will be the primary focus of Season 2 of Rings of Power, terrifying creatures from the Lord of the Rings universe will make their debut. Audiences will encounter a young Shelob, a horde of Barrow-wights, Hill-troll Damrod, a Sea Worm, and even Ents, reports the Express .

The second series will also welcome back many fan favourite characters, including Galadriel, Elrond, Prince Durin IV, Arondir, and Celebrimbor and the eagerly awaited creation of more Rings. Amazon Studios has dropped a teaser for the second season of The Rings of Power, revealing: "In Season Two of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will.

" The preview promises an intensification of the drama, stating: "Building on Season One's epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity." It further teases the struggles ahead: "As friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good-Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots-will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all: each other." The ensemble cast from the first season will return, featuring Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Charlie Vickers reprising his role as Sauron, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Owain Arthur as Khazad-dum Prince Durin, Benjamin Walker as Gil-galad, among others.

There's a significant change off-screen, with Joseph Mawle stepping down from the role of Adar, and Sam Hazeldine taking over. Mawle shared his feelings about leaving the show, posting on social media: "I loved my time exploring Middle-earth and diving into Tolkien's mythology." "I'm so honored that the character was liked.

He cared deeply about telling you his story. Though as an actor it remains my wish, my job description, to explore new characters and worlds. Wishing all the best to cast and crew for S2, I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines.

" The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to premiere on Prime Video on August 29, 2024..
