Synthony Pride was held at Spark Arena on Saturday, with Auckland Philharmonia, vocalists and talent performing dance classics. OPINION Mixing electronic and dance music with a live orchestra on paper may not sound like a winning combination, but music powerhouse Synthony has found a winning formula. In just four years since their first show, any event this collective puts on instantly becomes a must-see event.

Their Auckland Domain show earlier this year attracted over 30,000, and the shows are now making their mark in Australia. Success and growth allow room for experimentation, and on Saturday night Synthony headed to Spark Arena to stage its first-ever Pride-themed event. Paired with the Auckland Philharmonia and a group of powerhouse vocalists, this show took the formula that has worked well in the past, added some of the country’s best drag performers, songs from gay icons past and present, and a splash of camp to create an ode to gay club anthems.
