An early adopter of online luxury furniture selling, Rove Concepts is a Canadian home goods brand that was launched in Vancouver circa 2011.

I’ve been following its expansion for years, as a fan of its contemporary designs which combine the functionality of Scandinavian furniture making with the luxury and quality made famous by the Italians. Founder Art Lee continues to push the brand to new heights, launching a free augmented reality planner in 2023 , opening multiple showrooms across the U.S.

and Canada and partnering with major influencers and celebrities, most recently, John Legend. I fell in love with Rove’s Asher Bed Frame (it quickly became an editor favourite ) and decided to put its Uma Dining Chairs to the test. Read on for my complete review.

What: Uma Dining Chair Cost: $399 ($299 for members — pay a $200 annual fee and get 25 per cent off sitewide plus more perks) Where to buy: Rove Concepts Overview: The Uma Chairs have really done a 180 on my dining space. I went from a very bohemian aesthetic to contemporary elegance with this one simple change. The chairs have been meticulously designed to consider small details, down to the rubber anti-scratch gliders.

The curved legs and durable yet sultry velvet upholstering add luxury and sophistication to my otherwise neutral space. The curved back and high-density cushioning make these the most comfortable dining chairs I’ve owned. Delivery: I received the four chairs in two large square boxes within two weeks of ordering them, though the delivery standard is two to four weeks.

At first, I thought I was missing two chairs, but they ended up being packed two per box. Standard shipping within Canada and the U.S.

costs $159 for purchases up to $5,000, and 3 per cent for anything beyond that. White Glove delivery starts at $309 and includes setting up your items and removing all packaging. Assembly: Straightforward.

The chairs came with all the hardware and tools needed (just nuts, bolts and an Allen key) and I was able to put all four chairs together on my own within about 20 minutes while watching Love is Blind. There were paper instructions included in the box. Favourite features: I love the appearance of the chairs, as they’ve completely transformed my space.

I learned about the importance of mixing shapes from an interior designer friend. If you have a square or rectangular dining table, adding curved back chairs like these will complement the space by contrasting against the straight lines of the table. Oddly enough, I have a round table, but I love how these flow with it and contrast against the other hard lines in the room.

They’re made with high-density foam — combined with the curved back, this combination makes these chairs extremely comfortable. So much so that I’m comfortable working in one all day (about seven hours on and off). Least favourite features: Velvet tends to trap dust, lint and other small particles, which can lead to regular cleaning or vacuuming.

Because they’re black, light-coloured bits and stains can be obvious, so expect some regular maintenance to keep them looking brand new. If this isn’t for you, explore the boucle or vegan suede versions. At $400 per chair, these are an investment.

They are mid-range in terms of price point but can add up if you have a large dining table. Dimensions: 21.6”W x 22”D x 29.

9”H Seat width: 18.5 inch Seat height: 18.5 inch Seat depth: 18.

1 inch Leg height: 14.2 inch Material: Solid powder-coated black metal legs, high-density foam seat, anti-scratch gliders Seat options: Black plush velvet, Chatou Bouclé, Venice vegan suede Max weight limit: 330 lb Assembly required: Yes Delivery: $159 (or white glove for $309) Returns: 30 days Recommendation: These chairs are fabulous for anyone looking to add sophistication or bring your space into the modern era. They’ll add comfort to your dining room set-up while appearing far more expensive than they are (if you can hack the price point).
