EL CENTRO — On Thursday evening, city officials and local business community members gathered at the recently revamped Chan Plaza at Imperial Avenue just across El Centro Regional Medical Center. Plaza co-owner Jaymee Chan said that in 2011, she and her husband first started their company in the Imperial Valley, located at one of the plaza's offices. “We were running our first business, Healthpeak Home Health.
So, it's the only local home health agency in the valley,” Chan said. “And we're still running it now, but it's in a different location.” Last year, the previous owner asked the Chans if they were interested in buying the property.
The couple jumped at the opportunity, as the property had not been put on the market. “When we bought the property, we were kind of scared at first just because it's a lot of spaces,” Chan said, recalling that only theirs and another business was renting at the plaza. “I went to social media, went to Facebook and promoted the spaces, took pictures, took videos, revamped the place, changed the color, and made it more modern, added the yellow doors.
We did go with the yellow doors just so it would balance the gray-end the color.” The rehabilitation led other business owners to relocate to the Plaza that now is full. “This grand opening and ribbon cutting isn't just for Chan Plaza.
This is for all the local business owners here in the plaza,” Chan said. The plaza is now home to several companies — Ultrasound Belly Whisper.
