Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police branch has banned the entry of heavy vehicles on Chakan-Shikrapur Road in two time-shifts, in a bid to avert traffic congestion in the Chakan MIDC area . Such vehicles will not be allowed to ply on the route between 8am and 11am, and from 5pm to 8pm. Deputy commissioner of police (DCP-traffic) Vishal Gaikwad issued these orders on Sunday.

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on July 31 had held a meeting in Mumbai on the traffic issues plaguing Chakan. He had advised the police department and administration to halt heavy vehicles outside city limits during peak hours, when employees working in the industries of this area travel on the roads. Pimpri Chinchwad commissioner of police (CP) Vinoy Kumar Choubey on Aug 1 visited the Chakan industrial belt.



He met with officials of various agencies and suggested several measures to resolve traffic issues.
