Daniel Jackson Drakopoulos, 28, is accused of breaking into his partner's house at night and allegedly throwing her mobile phone against a wall, choking and seriously assaulting her before taking the ring. The 28-year-old former private schoolboy was arrested the morning after the alleged attack and charged at Manly police station, just a short drive from one of his father's famed restaurants.

Daniel is the son of renowned restaurateur Bill Drakopoulos, who owns a string of luxury venues in Sydney 's most elite waterside suburbs. The empire, which has seen him dubbed the 'King of the Waterfront', includes Manta at Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf - a favourite of celebrities including Elton John and Jon Bon Jovi. He also owns Sails on Lavender Bay's harbourside in Sydney's north shore, Ormeggio at The Spit in Mosman, Ventuno on Walsh Bay, and Ripples at four locations around the city.



Daniel and his three siblings, who all work as directors of their father's Sydney Restaurant Group, live an idyllic life flying around the world on luxury escapes to places such as the Maldives, Ibiza, Tokyo and Greece . Police allege that on February 4 Daniel went to the Paddington address of his then-partner and broke into her terraced house. According to court documents, Daniel then allegedly stole the young woman's engagement ring, worth $40,000. He was charged and released on bail to live at his parents' spectacular $10million trophy home at Seaforth on the northern beaches, which boasts panoramic views. Along with his younger brother, Daniel is 'growing Drak Hotels, another part of Sydney Restaurant Group', which includes the Coast Hotel at Budgewoi on the NSW Central Coast. Daniel Drakopoulos has been charged with six offences, including intentionally choking a person without consent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, aggravated break and enter, destroying or damaging property and larceny. His case is before the Sydney Downing Centre Local Court.
