Residents of a Worcester care home have enjoyed a day to remember out at the races. Fernhill House, an all-inclusive care home and member of the Berkley Care Group, went on a trip to Worcester Racecourse on Thursday, July 25. The visit was made possible by the group's sponsorship of the track's accessibility ramp.
Read more: Waddle of Worcester penguin dumped in River Severn The sponsorship is considered a "significant milestone" by Fernhill, and grants the care home tickets to all upcoming seasonal race fixtures. The residents were given prime seating along the final furlong, giving them unparalleled views of the races straight from the accessibility ramp. The group were particularly thrilled when they discovered that one of the races had been named in their honour - 'The Berkley Care Group Handicap Hurdle'.
As race sponsors, the residents and staff were invited to the parade ring to vote for the 'best-dressed horse'. All bets were placed on behalf of the residents by care assistant Gareth. Some residents even came away winners, before celebrating their triumphs with a round of ice creams.
The day's grand conclusion was a glamorous winner's trophy presentation by Fernhill's Pam. Amy Leach, customer relations manager at the care home, said: "This outing was something different for us as a home, but it certainly won’t be the last time. "The feedback from our residents and those who interacted with us at the racecourse has been overwhelmingly positive.
" She added: “Given the success of this event, we are definitely looking to sponsor similar events in the future. "We’re dedicated to creating meaningful experiences for our residents, blending luxury care with opportunities for social engagement and community involvement. “The day at Worcester Racecourse is just one example of how committed we are to enhancing the quality of life for those in our care.
