- Historical artifacts were discovered at the site of the ancient settlement of Sadyr-Korgon (ancient Shelzhi) during archaeological excavations in 2023. The finds were later transferred to a museum. These artifacts were uncovered when the Kirov Reservoir’s water level dropped, revealing new areas for excavation.

Specialists from the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan and the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg conducted further research on August 10-20, 2024, said Siyatbek Ibraliev, research worker at the Manas Epic Museum. Notable discoveries include pottery and glazed items dating back to the 15th century.



These artifacts are being transferred to the Manas Museum. The finds include decorated plates, bowls, and tiles, which showcase the high craftsmanship and enduring beauty of medieval Kyrgyz pottery. The ancient city of Shelzhi, located in modern-day Karabulak, was historically significant for its silver mining, competing with the Ilak region.

The city, once a major center in Central Asia, is now submerged under the Kirov Reservoir. When water levels recede, remnants of the settlement, including stairs and pottery fragments, become visible..
