“There are good people, and there are bad people,” said Marilene Gosselin. This past weekend, the community of Eldorado, proved to Gosselin just how good people can be. Gosselin and her companion, Emmanuel Munger, are truck drivers who were traveling on Interstate 40 when they stopped outside of Santa Rosa at a truck stop to refuel.
The couple was traveling with their two “trucker dogs” (as Gosselin calls them), Zombie and Gaia (pronounced Guy-ya). When a door opened, Gaia decided to jump out and race across the highway. She was out of sight so quickly that once Gosselin and Munger were able to get back on the road, she was nowhere to be seen.
Little did the couple know, Gaia had already been rescued. Andy and Judy Winnegar of Eldorado were also traveling on I-40. This is Andy Winnegar’s account of the rescue: “Our last gas stop before reaching Santa Rosa city limits was a brief one, but it turned into an unexpected adventure.
We had been to Lubbock for my dad’s 100th birthday celebration and already had three hours on the road in. The rain and the heavy traffic on I-40 — particularly the steady stream of semis — made for difficult driving conditions. Judy was behind the wheel, and we had already witnessed a few reckless drivers.
While most of the erratic behavior came from cars, we saw a couple of truck drivers acting carelessly as well. “As we merged back onto the highway, a semi in front of us came to a sudden stop. There was a dog in the road.
