Republic Day celebrations in Delhi are always a spectacle, but if you’re planning to get around the capital, you’ll need a solid strategy. From grounded flights to road closures and adjusted metro timings, here’s your go-to guide for navigating the city during the R-day weekend. Flight RestrictionsIf you’re flying in or out of Delhi between January 19 and 29, be prepared for temporary airspace restrictions.

Flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) will not operate between 10:20 AM and 12:45 PM, with stricter curbs on non-scheduled and chartered flights from 10 AM to 1:15 PM leading up to Republic Day. While commercial airline schedules will adapt, flights by the Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), and state-owned aircraft will continue as planned. If your plans include non-scheduled flights, double-check with your operator as they’ll be heavily restricted.

Road RestrictionsCentral Delhi’s roads are the heartbeat of the Republic Day parade, and navigating them (to reach the airport or any of Delhi's most famous landmarks) will require travellers to make some smart planning. The parade kicks off at Vijay Chowk, winding through Kartavya Path, C-Hexagon, Netaji Subhas Marg, and ending at the Red Fort. Roads around India Gate and C-Hexagon will remain closed until the parade passes Tilak Marg.

Here’s what you can do to avoid traffic chaos: Avoid the Parade Route: Steer clear of central Delhi between 9:30 AM and 1 PM.Use Alternative Route.
